Used to gently open the cervix before a gynecologic procedure that requires the cervix to be open  and  allowing access to the uterus and fallopian tubes.Using cervical dilation reduces the risk of injury to the cervix during such a procedure

 

They are also used to overcome stenosis in non-gynecological situations, such as in urology and proctology  and in the treatment of vaginismus
